2018 was a busy year for all of us at Electric Foundry! We contributed all sorts of electrical solutions to a range of exciting and very different projects.
Highlights in the world of theatre included: Set Electrics for Kinky Boots UK tour working alongside ASAP; 200 glowing lanterns for A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic; an LED portal for Richard II at the Almeida Theatre working with Illusion Design and Construct; all Set Electrics and Practical Props for Caroline or Change at the Playhouse Theatre, and the same for the Pinter at the Pinter season. Measure for Measure at the Donmar had us constructing a 80 bar wide array of individually controllable LED strips as well as an array of custom glowing tubes, and just this month Glyndebourne Productions commissioned us to help with a 8M diameter ring lightbox.
In events, we worked closely with our friends at White Light to deliver LED products ready to go for various corporate events and installations with their production department. In the summer we created some exciting hand held lighting solutions for 59 Productions for their production of Five Telegrams at the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Utilita Tree project saw us touring lighting and phone charging equipment to a selection of music festivals across the UK working again in partnership with Illusion Design and Construct. We also provided full set electrics services and 50 battery powered glowing orbs for Great North Star, a part of The Great Exhibition of the North. A build in October saw us designing, manufacturing and testing 440 custom LED fixtures to be used at the UAE 47th National Day in Abu Dhabi.
In hire we used our LED expertise and stock to enable others to deliver working systems for their own clients.
As we go into 2019, we are hitting the ground running with an installation at Madame Tussauds, building customised Pharos control systems for a major exhibition and LED is flying out the door for the start of the new theatre season.
